Baia dei Saraceni
Why we love it

Blue sea, fine and clear sand... this beach of Varigotti, surrounded by rocks overlooking the sea, will leave you speechless.

You can easily reach it by coming from Via Aurelia and you can park in the surrounding area, but we advise you to arrive early to be sure to find a place. Once you reach your destination you will have to follow a short path to reach the beach. It is free, but there is the possibility of renting deckchairs and parasol, there are also a shower and a refreshment point. You pay a small fee for entry, which also guarantees assistance to bathers.

The Baia dei Saraceni is also ideal for children, as it has a shallow and sandy bottom.

If you are skilled swimmers from here you can get to the small and charming beach of Punta Crena, reachable only by sea and off limits for each motor boat.

Balzi Rossi
Why we love it

In Ventimiglia there is one of the most famous beaches of the Riviera, famous for its crystal clear sea and the numerous caves of archaeological interest, where prehistoric finds dating back to the Paleolithic have been discovered.

This stretch of sea consists of a rocky first part, open for free to the public, and the so-called "Egg Beach", so called because it is formed by white pebbles and perfectly smooth, with a small and exclusive beach that offers every kind of service, a gourmet restaurant, a lounge bar by the sea. The standard is quite high, do not be surprised if this is also reflected on the wallet!

If you plan a day at Balzi Rossi it is better to book the beach in advance, you can access the site by clicking here and also choose a half-day package.

For a more varied program, take some time to visit the small prehistoric museum founded in 1898, where you can admire some skeletons of animals from various eras and various objects found in caves.

A few kilometers away you can also visit the beautiful Botanical Gardens of Villa Hanbury, a park that extends over 18 hectares on the whole promontory, rich in plants from all over the world (more than 5800 species). To access all the details of the park click here.

Il Porteghetto
Why we love it

A beach of rocks, among the most famous of Cervo: it will enchant you thanks to its rocky bottom that gives the water a crystal clear.

"The Porteghetto" is also the name of the bar-restaurant with a breathtaking view, built right on the cliff overlooking the beach, which also includes an area equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and a walkway for easier access to the water.

In the area there are many stretches of free beach, most of rocks and pebbles.

The seabed is ideal for snorkelers and divers.

We advise you to equip yourself with rock shoes, which will serve you especially to get into the water since, among the many inhabitants of the marine fauna, near the shore there are often hedgehogs!

Why we love it

This small beach is located in a bay protected by the coves of the coast, away from the chaos of the most tourist areas, set in a beautiful setting at the foot of the historic center of Imperia. Just look up to admire the Parasio and the Logge di Santa Chiara.

Here you will find rocks and pebbles and you can settle in the free beach, with the convenience of the Bar at your fingertips, or rent deckchairs and parasol at the equipped beach, for a more complete relaxation.

The sea is always calm and great for snorkeling: already a few meters from the shore, the seabed is home to animals and aquatic plants.

La Galeazza
Why we love it

Free, wild, untouched. If you are looking for a place away from the crowds and beach clubs, this is the beach for you.

In this stretch of coastline there are the wildest beaches of the city, all free and with the clearest sea thanks to the absence of sand.

The beach is made of stones and rocks, so we suggest you to bring some suitable shoes to enter the water in a more comfortable way.

The sea is immediately deep, ideal for those who are able to swim and for snorkeling enthusiasts, less recommended for children or inexperienced.

La Galeazza is one of the most loved beaches by the empires: here DIY usually reigns and many bring their "comfort" from home with mattresses, deck chairs and personal umbrellas.

Drive past the Spianata Borgo Peri to the end of the road, park and go on the Incompiuta, the panoramic pedestrian promenade that connects Imperia to the nearby Diano Marina. After a few meters you will see the suggestive rock of Galeazza and you will have reached your destination.

By the way, at the end of your day at sea, when the air is a bit cooler, we recommend you to enjoy a nice walk on the unfinished, enjoying the beautiful panorama, accompanied by the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks.

At the end of the "Spianata" seaside walk, looking down, you can't help but notice this beach club with total white furniture and canopies sheltered from light curtains in the solarium area.

Why we love it

Modern trattoria with ancient charm, the tavern Pippi is located in the heart of a seaside village for over twenty years and is very popular with the empires.

The service is efficient and the warm welcome, the chef is experienced and creative. The ingredients of sea and land typical of Ligurian cuisine are combined with products offered by the various Italian regions, always with originality.

The menu always changes because it depends on the supply of fresh products, the trend of the seasons and also on the continuous research of the chef. Our advice is to rely on the staff and let themselves be led into a surprise journey that will not disappoint either on the side of food or the matching with wines.

In their words: "We are not starred, we do not have an à la carte menu, chef Ivano loves to call himself an amateur cook. We are neither set nor combed ... We are restaurateurs who put all their heart into what they do, even managing to snatch a smile".

Porto Maurizio's Cathedral

Porto Maurizio's Cathedral
Why we love it

Among the many churches and sanctuaries that you will find in Imperia and in the surrounding area, the Cathedral of Porto Maurizio, or rather the Basilica of San Maurizio and Compagni Martiri, certainly deserves a special mention.

Yes, it is the one that stands on the tip of the promontory in all the typical photos of Imperia taken from above, impossible not to notice. Start here your visit to the historic center of Parasio.

Being in the square, at the foot of the cathedral in all its grandeur, you will not struggle to believe that it is the largest church in all of Liguria. The clean lines of the neoclassical style go well with the opulence of the decorations. Walking inside with your eyes turned upwards, you will find yourself wondering in disbelief how they managed to decorate all those vaults and high domes.

A little curiosity? The basilica was built between 1700 and 1800 with the intention of leading Porto Maurizio to the level of nearby Oneglia, which had already renovated its main church. It had to be in the most up-to-date neoclassical style and follow the rules of pomp and majesty, testifying to the riches of the Maritime Republic of Genoa and Porto Maurizio. In short, the church can be considered, if we want, a testimony of the eternal rivalry between the two cities later unified in Imperia: a "race" that still survives in playful tones between us "imperiesi" (people from Imperia).

Why we love it

If you want to spend a different day, a visit to Toirano can be an idea to combine culture, nature and history, even prehistory!

With a guided tour of about 70 minutes you will be accompanied among the exceptional traces of the passage of a small group of homo sapiens, who explored the cave about 14,000 years ago, at the end of the Upper Paleolithic, and through an important deposit of cave bear bones.

Not to mention the beautiful crystals and the spectacular stalactites that make the scenery of the route: 1300 meters underground of pure wonder.

Booking is mandatory, call +39 0182 98062 for full details.

A few kilometers from Toirano you can also visit the smaller and less known caves of Borgio Verezzi. Through a path of 800 meters, you will be amazed by the magnificent diversity of colors due to the presence of various minerals.

Thanks to a day trip you can visit the magnificent caves that characterize this part of Liguria, joining both with a visit to the characteristic medieval villages of Noli, Verezzi, Finalborgo or Toirano itself, which received the environmental tourism quality mark orange flag from the Italian Touring Club. You can also take a swim in one of the most beautiful beaches in the area, the wonderful Baia dei Saraceni.

The park still extends for 18 hectares over the whole promontory of Capo Mortola, and is unmatched in Europe both from the botanical point of view, with the 5800 species of ornamental plants, officinal and fruit, from the landscape, thanks to the harmony between buildings, ornamental elements and cultivated terraces.

Villa Grock, fu l'eccentrica Dimora del più grande clown del '900: Adrien Wettach, in arte Grock.

The house, with its imposing staircases is surrounded by a beautiful park, with palm trees, magnolias, olive trees and the typical vegetation of the historic gardens of the Riviera.

One last tip: to park your car you should follow the signs to the port, with a little luck there you can also find some free parking.

Another good idea to avoid the stress of traffic is to arrive by bike: the cycle path of the Riviera dei fiori runs through the city and is a convenient solution as well as pleasant. You can leave your car in San Lorenzo or Riva Ligure, rent a bike at one of the rental points you meet on the track and enjoy a nice panoramic ride!

Cervo
Why we love it

An interweaving of colorful houses that climbs up a hill  overlooking a crystal clear sea, surrounded by green hills, with artistic and historical evidence from the Roman era, perfectly amalgamated in a town still inhabited.

It will not be difficult to guess why Cervo has been included among the most beautiful villages in Italy.

You can start your visit from the top or from the bottom of the hill, in both cases you will immediately enter the medieval old town, remained unchanged for centuries and practicable only on foot.

Walking along the narrow streets of the village you will arrive in a large square, the one with the Church of San Giovanni Battista, with its unique concave facade that reminds of the colors of the sea and a spectacular view.

Going up again you will find the Castello dei Clavesana, from the seventeenth century, preserved in excellent condition. It is now home to the Ethnographic Museum and art exhibitions during the summer.

But Cervo is also a modern and lively village. There are numerous coffee bars or small shops and workshops of artisans, who sell their handmade products, such as "la Boutique del Cuoio" right near the main Square.

Stop to dine in one of the many restaurants in the village, after eating you will find the shops open and a perfect atmosphere to enjoy an evening walk.

Various events and festivals are also often organised , which acquire a special charm in such a wonderful setting.

Bussana Vecchia
Why we love it

With its incomparable charm, Bussana Vecchia is also called Il Borgo degli Artisti, (the village of artists) for its unique history.

After a violent earthquake that, in 1887, destroyed most of the town, the inhabitants of the time abandoned their homes, and the village remained uninhabited and forgotten for many years.

Walking through the streets of the village, you'll have the impression of being in an almost unreal place: you can see corners where nature has taken over, with buildings covered with climbing plants, ancient stone houses, ruins recovered but never distorted.

In the middle of all this it is easy to come across artistic touches, paintings, murals, colored chairs hanging on the wall, transformed into flower boxes or statues embedded in the walls. Yes, because at the end of the '50s a community of artists settled in the village and rebuilt it little by little using tiles, stones and bricks recovered from the rubble and adding a touch of originality.

Spend some time among the artists' artisan's shops, there are also several small restaurants and cafes to relax. Then resume the visit of the main points of interest of the village, such as the garden among the ruins, a maze of plants and flowers that develops between the ancient ruins or the Church of Sant'Egidio, with its open-air remains.

An experience that you can not miss, in a truly unique place.

Trekking in San Romolo
Why we love it

The mountains with the most incredible sea view are those of San Romolo, a village 800 meters above sea level not far from Sanremo.

If you love hiking and walking in the mountains, or want to escape for a day from the summer heat, these paths are challenging at the right point and you can reach them in less than an hour from Villa Lea!

Head towards Sanremo and join the Aurelia bis, a detour will take you on the road of hairpin bends that climbs towards the mountain and soon you will arrive at the Prato di San Romolo, a spacious area perfect for a picnic in the open air.

This is the starting point of several paths to be covered on foot or by mountain bike, part of the San Romolo Natural Park, a protected area of 700 hectares of chestnut woods and Mediterranean scrub.

If you are fit enough, we recommend that you take the paths that go up to Monte Caggio or Monte Bignone, are quite challenging (hiking shoes are indispensable), but it is really worth it. The open view of the mountains and the sea is priceless: if you will be there on a beautiful day you can enjoy a bit of deserved rest admiring the games of sunlight on the open sea, if on the coast the sky is overcast can happen an even more fascinating show: find yourself above a white and soft expanse of clouds!

Why we love it

Starting from Varigotti you will arrive in Noli, passing from the top of a rocky chain overlooking the sea, the view from there is unique and along the way you will enjoy the most beautiful views of the entire Western Liguria.

The main attraction of the walk is the Cave of the Robbers also called "Antro dei Falsari", a spectacular atrium created by the slow erosion of the sea millions of years ago, like a window that frames the turquoise sea.

You can "dive" into an opening in the rock, to enter the cave and enjoy a well-deserved break admiring the horizon and taking memorable photos.

Fancy a bit of simple relaxation in the open area? Here you will find a flat path for a walk suitable for everyone, flanked by a loop of bike path of about 1.5 Km and, for those who want a bit of sport, a "health path" formed by 10 stations with proposals for exercises for large and small, some with specific tools made of wood.

Passeggiata Degli Innamorati
Why we love it

When you are there, a few meters above the rocks, overlooking the crystal clear sea, walking calmly and maybe enjoying an ice cream, you will understand why we empires call the pedestrian street that connects Borgo Marina and Borgo Foce "The Walk of the Lovers" And we have no idea his real name!

It’s a very short route, about 10 minutes, but it’s special in its simplicity. During the day, if the sea is calm, the water is so clear that you will see the sea floor perfectly, not to mention the atmosphere that is created in the evening, with the lights of the port and the reflection of the moon on the horizon...

Monte Calvario walk

Monte Calvario walk
Why we love it

The walk up to Mount Calvary is short and suitable for everyone: it leads to one of the most evocative views of the city, a sanctuary of 1690 and a small museum.

Next to the church of Borgo Prino (San Benedetto Revelli) begins a typical crêuza de ma, one of the many Ligurian streets between coast and hill. In particular this is an ancient stone and pebble mule track, easy to walk, even if uphill, and suitable for children.

At the top you will find a large lawn surrounded by cypresses and a breathtaking view: the open view of the sea, the hill of Parasio seen from above, the valleys with their centuries-old olive trees and the top of Monte Faudo.

Lovers of culture will surely appreciate the Sanctuary of Santa Croce that dominates the square, dating back to 1690. Next to it there is also a small museum, where vestments, sacred furnishings used in processions and iron chains are kept, carried to the sanctuary by sailors taken prisoner during pirate raids and freed thanks to the brothers of the convent attached to the sanctuary. Other works on display include a medieval stone sculpture of the Madonna and Child and parts of a holy water font that is said to have been sectioned and buried in the garden to save it from looting by the Napoleonic troops.
